Used P61, What's My Next Step?

I clean my esp with a nylon bottle brush, I never remove the esp. And I brush out the passage with a rag tied to the end of an old broken off rod to my pellet stove brush set. It's just fluffy ash in there, both in the passage and on the esp. My esp hasn't been out since the first year we put...

Used P61, What's My Next Step?

I've seen my P61a take 40 minutes to fully shut down, everything has to drop temp before the combustion fan will shut off. When I clean the stove I kind of force the issue by scraping hot pellets off the burn pot and cracking the ash pan door open a bit to help cool things. Actually that's a...

    Pellet supply

Ya that was a mistake, should have been $2.58, sorry about that ! I corrected it. I still can't get past oil being more than in the $1 range mentally. Actually I think we saw a sign at another oil dealer under $2.50. At 2 a gal I might just as well burn oil and in the $2.50 range I do dual fuel...

    Pellet supply

We had a slow start last year do to supply as well. It worked out in the end. In our area evidently there were a couple of mill fires last year that put two supply routes down. I haven't investigated pellets this year yet. Oil is $2.58 a gal here last time I looked, not far off my break even...

Test burn a new stove before winter?

If you clean the stove before the blower fully shuts down you get nearly no dust from the stove during that process. Or as Tony said run the blower in test mode. The dust I get in the house is from dumping the pellets in the hopper, shine a light in there sometime when filling the stove and you...

Used P61, What's My Next Step?

I probably would have cleaned the mice out, wire brushed what ever I could get at without disassembly and fired the sucker up. It might have run another 20 years.

Newbie with Harman p35i operation questions

Yes you are, at least in terms of getting those quality pellets at a good price ( maybe for some salmon and steelhead fishing too ). I could never get DF to leave enough ash to even form a decent ash line much less out to the edge of the burn pot. But in the mid winter with lesser pellets I do...

    Should Have Ordered More Pellets

Around here by April all the pellet suppliers have turned over to garden supply shops and landscaping services, you can't even find any pellets never mind buy them at a bargain rate.

New Harman 52i Pellet Stove User

The 52i and also the XXV rely heavily on the blower to heat your room. You're not going to get a lot of radiating heat off of a 52i in my experience but yet it still heats your house. But on another note the blower is stronger yet quieter than say that of a P61 which gives more of a combo of...

    Should Have Ordered More Pellets

There is something to be said about the difference in cold between spring and fall ( beyond the body getting shocked coming off summer heat). But we have a stronger sun in the spring too, so during the day it takes less heat to heat the house as the same weather temps of fall with low sun and...

    Should Have Ordered More Pellets

It's turned warm here at the end of the week, my heat has been on once or twice in the last 24 hours. Supposed to be 47 overnight tonight. Even though it was still pretty cold I shut the stove down the third week in March because the only pellets around near by were $6.99 a bag and oil $2.59 a...

    Pellet shortage?

It seems like pellet manufacturing is a high risk operation in terms of fire. Now it's supposedly VA. Internet news shows one in ME and also Vermont in the last year. Is it really that volatile or is it an easy out I wonder ? Supply had been sporadic here . HD has had no FSU this year, early on...

    Fines??????

Not sure how you are getting at the fines box that the control panel would be in your way. Removing and leaving the slider plate off is kind of a fire hazard . It carries out the timing of the pellet drop and blocks the hopper in case of an auger burn back on shut down. I know my P61 burns back...

Three weeks in to my first Pellet stove.

It sounds like the pellets were the problem . Running in low burn will not be as clean as a higher burn but it also shouldn't cause the gunky mess you described having to clean with the Hamers. Usually it amounts to a bit more ash on the door glass and maybe some dime sized carbon deposits on...

Cleaning Roll Call - Cleanout Tee Inside Home

No creosote here, one time there was a little puddle of it in there though. I was burning a certain pellet and never went back to them after that. Don't recall which brand now, it was about 5 years ago now and none since and it wasn't much then either.

Three weeks in to my first Pellet stove.

I use a rag tied on a 1/4" cleaning rod to sweep out in that passage leading to the back of the stove. In my setup I have a clean out T behind the stove, so I just push the ash right on through and out, sneaking the rag past the ESP. I do this on the monthly cleaning, though sometime it becomes...

Three weeks in to my first Pellet stove.

Harmans run about as clean as the pellets run through them. Big Box store pellets are usually pretty to very ashy. If you get your hands on some douglas fir or AWF Pure White Pine you would see what they mean buy clean and also hot pellets. The thing about Harman to me is even with crap pellets...

Three weeks in to my first Pellet stove.

Have you undone the two wing nuts below the burn pot where the igniter is, lift off the cover and dig the ash out of there ( not the top of the burn pot but down low in front) ?

Three weeks in to my first Pellet stove.

What stage of burn was that second shot taken at ? The only time I get a flame like that in my P61 is from an overload of fuel on start up because the stove needs cleaning, more specifically, the ash needs to be removed from below the igniter.

What's with big box stores out of pellet stock already

Incidentally, there was a pellet plant fire in Maine and another in Vermont back in the spring of this year. But I don't think that's enough to cause the big box stores to be short, they may not even buy from those facilities and had plenty of supply warning anyway. The one in Maine was in...

Highway almost always has pellets, I swung in there today but as you mentioned they were closed . I know about them well enough, bought coal from them 30 years ago lol ! It's ok, Highway gets too much generally anyway, though they give a little break by the pallet . Aubuchon will work for now.

2014 was the last time we saw any sort of pellet crunch around these parts but everyone did that year. It's been a mix of weather but ya we had some pretty cold weather early. And further north ( Maine ) I guess they have a solid snow cover and iced over ponds already, maybe our pellets went there. But then I heard a rumor of two pellet factory fires up north, totally unsubstantiated thus far...

Harman XXV-TC, looking for setting tips

I didn't realize it was the newest model or it didn't register anyway and am not up on their controls. So I'll bow out about running the stove here. That said, you're heating a large area for that stove, probably up near it's max capability, a bag a day doesn't sound unreasonable in 30 deg...
