P68 Burn Pots holes close to auger

There are a number of older threads regarding this issue. If I recall correctly, Harman removed those bottom holes on later models. I had those bottom 5 holes welded shut on my P38. There was never any problem with the auger - I did it as a precaution. It made no difference in the performance of...

    Radon mitigation effects on stove

We have had a radon mitigation system installed for 3 years. There is a pellet stove in the basement with an oak and a high efficiency fireplace upstairs in the family room - also with an oak. There have been 0 issues with either. When I open the pellet stove door to scrape the burn pot (still...

    End of year shutdown

I clean everything including emptying and vacuuming the hopper. I pull the stove out a bit and detach it from the vent and OAK. Baggies and rubber bands over the vent and OAK inlets (and same over the pipes). 1 large desiccant box and wadded newspaper in the hopper and the same in the ash pan...

    Harman P43 Heat Output.

Make sure your esp probe is not covered in ash. Hopefully you have already done this, but if not -- Pull the ash pan, take off the blower cover, then use a flashlight to look down the vent at your esp probe. If it is covered in ash that is likely your problem. Several times each heating season...

Purchasing our first pellet stove or not?

I live in a rural area on 20 acres. House (2100 sq ft - 3800 sq ft being conditioned) is all electric built in 2004. We put in a geothermal system which works well. Later I added a Harman P38 pellet stove in the basement (mostly finished) and a high efficiency wood fireplace in our main level...

Harman p61 is a pain to start

I used to use gel to light my P38 and half the time the fire would die out before it would get going. I don't know if this will help but this is how I now light my P38 - I use a hand blow torch. 1. Fill the pot with 3 handfulls of pellets. 2. I turn the dial to 'Turbo' (yeah this is a vintage...

Harmon p52i - how to manual start with igniter fluid?

I have used about every means of lighting my P38 (no igniter). The propane torch is by far the easiest.

    One Bag of Pellets Left

1 lonely bag left on my pallet. I have been holding it in reserve in case any bitter temps head our way - so far so good (I only burn part-time). I don't have the option of running out and buying more as our local suppliers stop carrying pellets in March. I feel bad for the full-time burners who...

Another Ton of Somersets Scored from Jeff in Iron Ridge, WI

Greenways are very common here. They have been my pellet of choice for several years. A little ashier but they burn nice and hot. Usually $200-$210 / ton.

Another Ton of Somersets Scored from Jeff in Iron Ridge, WI

Lowes carried Somersets several years ago and I purchased a ton. They were a really great pellet. Unfortunately no one in my area has carried them since. I even emailed the Somerset folks hoping they would market them again in our area. No such luck. Another great pellet is Henry County -...

    Reload question

For an EPA fireplace/stove with an outside air kit... When performing a reload on an established bed of hot coals do you need to crack the door to get it going? I have the air wide open but I still need to keep the door cracked for 10 minutes or so to get the fire going. Once going everything...

    P38 auger and flame issue

If you haven't already - check your fines box. Also make sure everything is sealed (ash door, hopper lid, fines cover). If everything is OK - it could be an ESP issue as mentioned by jzm2cc.

    primary or secondary heat?

Secondary. I use my downstairs (family room) pellet stove when temps drop below 25F overnight. I will be using it for the first time this season starting tonight (and a lot in the days to come). Primary heat is geothermal which always runs (but a lot less when the pellet stove is being used).

    Fireplace or Television?

Fireplace and TV are on adjacent walls. We have 2 rocker / recliners that sit on a constructed swivel base. We can face the fp or swivel and face the TV. We can enjoy both at the same time or separately. When the chairs are not being used they always face the fp. Red walls are being prepped...
