I have often picked up completely water soaked rotten ash and left it to dry. When it is dry it is very light in weight but burns ok and for a reasonable time. I have lots of space to store wood and only a limited supply so for me it's worth it.
That is a top handle saw and normally used by trained tree surgeons when in the tree dismantling. Please do not get into the habit of using it onehanded.
It's not good to transport firewood over long distances for several reasons. Use what is available locally. Some of the coldest places only have softwoods to burn and they have been doing it for centuries.
