What Is In Your Stove Right Now?

We have been burning pine scraps, but really only at night and the wifey lets it go out in the morning. The house has been staying warm and comfy all day. As the kiddos go to bed, we repeatthe process. Sent from my VS835 using Tapatalk

What Is In Your Stove Right Now?

Wood scraps and small pine branches...20 degrees outside and the coldest room (farthest from the stove) in the house is 69 degrees. The new siding is keeping the house toasty... Sent from my VS835 using Tapatalk

Sleet sound in chimney - when it's sleeting!

I would have to agree that it's not a chimney fire and probably just the rain/sleet hitting your cap, especially with a new install and new pipe. Is your chimney pipe in a chimney or metal pipe ran through the roof? If it is the latter, nothing to worry about...it will be like rain on a metal...

    White oak vs red oak.

Not really sure. I will volunteer for an experiment. Bring me a couple of cord of the red and white oak, I will split them, stack them, and in 3 years I will you know which is better... [emoji16][emoji3][emoji3][emoji16] I have mainly had red oak and some white oak, but have never compared the...

RE: New woodstove? The price is right, but I'm so sure how safe it is . . .

Well, you should get a little longer burn time if you burn hardwood and not soft wood in it. Definitely avoid wood with high moisture content...not sure how easy the chimney will clean. Do you know what kind of chimney liner it would be connected to? Thanks...

    Less wood consumption

We re-sided our house this past year and have about 1 1/4" foam insulation behind the siding. Huge difference in the summer keeping the heat out...our lone window A/C unit kept the humidity in the house 10%-15% lower than the outside. We have only built a few fires so far (mainly at night to...

Can firewood be dried faster set by the stove?

That is the outside of the wood, not the inside. The outside of wood will lie to you every time. Never test the outside of a piece of wood for moisture content. Split one of the pieces and test the "fresh cut" at the ends and the center. Average them. It probably won't be 20% (if it was recently...

    Shopping for a stove

That's a loaded question in that everyone has an opinion. To start...What is the size of the space you are heating and the general layout? Where is the stove located in your house? What is your current chimney size/ setup? I am sure folks will pipe in with more questions, but that's a good...

When are you going to light your first fire for the season?

I haven't yet, but I am hoping not until November this year. Much of it will depend on the daytime temps & the nighttime lows. Currently, daytime is 70's and nighttime is 50's. No need yet. But more importantly the determination will be made by our CHO (Chief Heating Officer), and when the wifey...

Craigslist score that actually worked out

I burn a lot of poplar and pine also...no one wants it, it is easy to split, and it is great to burn in the shoulder season so all my hardwood is saved for the real cold weather. Doesn't last as long as hardwoods but still heats well & makes for pretty fires. Sent from my VS835 using Tapatalk
