    Hearthstone Clydesdale or BK Princess?

OK, so you save those 5 minutes that I spend loading my stove each morning while enjoying a second cup of coffee. Actually, I find it very comforting each morning sitting in front of the stove and soaking up that radiant heat pouring out of the large crystal clear window. Pure heaven I say...

    Hearthstone Clydesdale or BK Princess?

You are preaching to the choir when it comes to cat stoves. My stove is a cat stove.

    Hearthstone Clydesdale or BK Princess?

If I had no other heat source and was away from home for extended periods of time during the day, then I would certainly consider a stove with long burn technology. No wait a minute, truth is I would just move into another house that had a good second heat source. That's the way I roll.

    Hearthstone Clydesdale or BK Princess?

I could not deal with 9 months of wood burning. I look upon this as more of a hobby, certainly not out of necessity or to save money.

    Hearthstone Clydesdale or BK Princess?

you are a perfect candidate for natural gas heat - providing you can afford it. Welcome to 2017.

    Hearthstone Clydesdale or BK Princess?

Personally, I would not select a stove, or size a stove to meet every extreme condition. I have another primary heat source in the house and can certainly afford to run it if required, or if I just damn well feel like it. If I lived in a colder climate and my stove struggled to maintain a...

    Hearthstone Clydesdale or BK Princess?

Beammeister, you're at the beach 8 AM and 8PM....interesting. Clean glass and fire view are high priorities for me. Actually, if I hated loading a wood burner as much as you BK guys, I wouldn't burn wood. Natural gas is sooooo much easier.

    Hearthstone Clydesdale or BK Princess?

OK, so you prefer to only deal with your stove once a day and that's fine. I enjoy interacting with my stove twice a day. Even if I had a BK, I would be checking it at least twice to make sure all was ok. I would just save the 5 minutes required to reload. The trade off for the 12 hour burn...

    Hearthstone Clydesdale or BK Princess?

Hence the advantage of a well designed hybrid 700 lb soapstone stove. No big temperature swings throughout the burn. My normal burns are 12 hours and at peak the temp is usually 75 - 76 and at the end of the burn it is usually 72 - 73. Very comfortable.

    Woodstock progress vs hearthstone equinox

You should either shoot off an email to Woodstock or give them a call. They always welcome questions from the public. Good folks.

    Hearthstone Clydesdale or BK Princess?

Yeah, this whole 'burn time' definition is a slippery slope. Anyway, lets get this thread back on course.

111 Your condescending replies only reveal your insecurities. Typical school yard bully mentality.

    Hearthstone Clydesdale or BK Princess?

You make a good point. If I were to load my stove with the same amount of wood as a fully loaded BK, it would not burn as long, but would give off more BTU's per hour as it did burn compared to the BK. The efficiencies between my stove and the BK are very close. But if I reduce my load size...

    Hearthstone Clydesdale or BK Princess?

My point has nothing to do with Woodstock. I'm just saying that super long burn times are not on the top of everyone's priority list. There are many other attributes to take into consideration.

    Hearthstone Clydesdale or BK Princess?

For your 20+ hour burns you are loading your stove with twice the amount of wood then I do for a 12+ hour burn. I use 5 -6 medium splits for 12+ hours. You don't need to present your side by distorting the facts. Really not necessary nor helpful.

Maybe for you, and front loaders, but it works just fine for me and side loaders. But I guess we are talking inserts here.

    Hearthstone Clydesdale or BK Princess?

I like BKs, and they were high on my list when I bought my last stove. Just sayin that long burns are not on the top of the list of priorities for a lot of folks. For me and a lot of people, once you get past 10 - 12 hours, burn times become much less important. Diminishing returns sets in...

    Hearthstone Clydesdale or BK Princess?

My point is that 20 - 30 hour burns are NOT the 'be all and end all' to the majority of wood burning folks. I know it is the most important thing for BK peeps, but that is not the majority of us. That's all I'm sayin.

Not if it's a smolder putting out the heat of a candle and clogging your cap.....just sayin.

    Hearthstone Clydesdale or BK Princess?

Unless you abuse the cat, you do not replace it every 2 or 3 years. Mine is 4 years old and I was not gentle with it the first few years. I burned a lot of greenish wood. Now I know better. And I have a new cat waiting in the wings but do not need to use it yet..

    Woodstock Progress Hybrid....any problems?

Oh, and I forgot to tell you the history of the stove. When it first came out there were some stoves that experienced a smoke smell around the loading door. Woodstock was made aware of the problem and issued a repair kit to the early owners and corrected the manufacturing process. There was...

    PH Dirty Glass

Honestly it sounds like you're doing everything right. I also have an exterior chimney that is about 21 ft tall. The only other thing I can think of is the type wood you burn and its moisture content. I burn very well seasoned oak and hickory that is at least 4 years split & stacked with top...

    Woodstock Progress Hybrid....any problems?

I have a PH and like it very much. I do not sweep it from inside the house. I use the rear vent through a exterior wall to a Tee connection, and then up 21 feet with insulated SS Liner in a chase.. At the Tee is where I sweep it using a Soot Eater. Very simple process and I usually only get...

    PH Dirty Glass

Yes, I still have the metal flapper. I wasn't sure removing it would make a big difference and was afraid of possible smoke spillage. But since I reload at the coaling stage when there is no smoke, and you feel it made a big difference, I will remove it. Thanks for the tip.

Smell won't go away on new stove

You know I could be totally wrong, but I believe the stove is soapstone with a cast iron frame. The plate on the ceiling for the secondaries is stainless steel I believe.
