    Earth Day 2015 - April 22

Yes, some of ours coming through the grid I assume comes from coal. Why not? It's a natural resource! However, most of ours comes from hydro plants (3 within an hour of me) and nuclear power. As for coal, we restrict it and then it gets sold to China where they don't give a flip about CO2 or...

    Earth Day 2015 - April 22

it's really sad to think that you believe you are saving the planet and reducing CO2 emissions by using electric. My house is all electric and according to my whole house monitoring system (TED), I am projected to contribute 1708 pounds of CO2 this month by using electric.

    Earth Day 2015 - April 22

The 'green-loving' moderator in the pellet forum keeps trashing my posts so here goes to see if this moderator is just as intolerant of opposing views! > Parts of Europe as well as the suckers here have drunk the Green Kool Aid and think they alone can save the planet while over 3.2 BILLION...

Embers shooting out front of Classic Bay

WHAT? The only way embers are going to get into the convection air stream is as Kap said > the heat exchanger tubes have come loose and dropped down. Never heard of this happening until this year for some reason. The fines sure aren't going to leak out the bottom of the hopper and into the...

Europe is calling, with water being scarce, are the forests next ?

Rockwood pellets are made in a plant south of Atlanta but most pellets made here are destined for Europe. There go our trees!

    pellet stove shut down

Beg to differ. Why point fingers at a faulty vacuum switch when there are a multitude of things that make it LOOK like a BAD vacuum switch? Check all those first. You could replace the switch 100 times but if the exhaust path is clogged or the exhaust blower is locked down with ash, it ain't...

Switched to pellets - how much do I need?

You think that's cool. Check this little baby out! We've been using ours like crazy this last month! Burns pellets and cooks a pizza in two minutes! 800+ degrees just like the big wood fired outdoor ovens. Won't bake big stuff like bread and casseroles though. But it makes darn good pizza...

Switched to pellets - how much do I need?

yea, you were heating for $400/season vs much more than that for pellets in the future. Your only saving grace is that you won't have to get up twice a night to throw in more wood or be there when the wood-eating beast demands more food during the day. You WILL be spending a lot more for heat...

    Competition with Schools

That's a really neat, sophisticated setup! How'd you like to be in the engineroom of a destroyer with 1200 psi steam? You sure didn't want a leak at that pressure.

    Competition with Schools

If they don't convert, they are ripping off the taxpayers as most school boards do on a regular basis.

Nearly 100 used pellet stoves for sale on Craigslist ,western Ma.

At a buck 29, it's hard to believe it wouldn't be cheaper. According to my comparison chart, even with an old 78% efficient furnace, you would break even with $250 a ton pellets.

Nearly 100 used pellet stoves for sale on Craigslist ,western Ma.

Speaking of butt-numb, in the mid-sixties I had a Ducati Diana 300cc single cylinder vibrating MOTHER with a narrow seat. I decided to take it on a 700 mile journey of adventure before going in the Service. My butt was so sore that I stood up for half the trip even with anything I could find...

    Pellet from Krypton found!

Pull up a chair, Flip. :) It's made from ethylene that is then exposed to catalysts and it polymerizes into chains of varying lengths depending on if it's low density, high density or high molecular weight high density polyethylene. I worked with all of them during my 31 years of toil.

Quad Santa Fe pellet feed problem.

You did good! Putting the stove on HIgh when the hopper is almost empty is a good thing also because on Low, it doesn't generate enough vacuum to keep the vacuum switch pulled in, at least on my stoves. Too much air is sucked in through the auger tube. I sift my pellets so a 'suck out' at...

Quad Santa Fe pellet feed problem.

What stove do you have. It's best to put that kind of info in your 'signature' so everyone knows. Thinking about it, with the long pellets, he could go to 10% extra feed IF his flame height is too low with the gate all the way open. I never had to, though. That would be setting #7. AND...

    What would you buy?

I'd buy a coal stoker and get twice/three times the heat for 1/2 the cost of the fuel.

Quad Santa Fe pellet feed problem.

This is a good point if you are dumping pellets directly into the hopper from the bag and not presifting them.

Quad Santa Fe pellet feed problem.

There is no number 9 on the control box. It only goes to 7. If his stove is working properly and he has the feed gate set properly, there's no need for a 10% boost in feed rate.

Quad Santa Fe pellet feed problem.

I had similar pellets a couple of years ago that were many times 3" long! I also took out the gate and elongated the slot so that I could open it wider. I did get the occasional bridge across the drop chute up at the auger though. Now I run it as far closed as it will go. Hang in there...
