Backup for P68... My head hurts

Just an Update..... (The weather will turn cold soon, and somebody might need this information) I tested the system, when main power goes down, the APV backup 750 UPS shuts the stove down. If no ones home, or we are sleeping, this is what we want to happen. Because the unit is near a outside...

Backup for P68... My head hurts

It Is a large single unit, not baseboard, that heats the air (ask about the most expensive heat you can get) and distributes the heated air through each rom, with returns, like a central air conditioner does. Im not sure what our rates are here, but my wife tells me, if we don't run the pellet...

Backup for P68... My head hurts

Yes, if I could turn the clock back, my original purchase would have been a 8,000 watt generator, pure sine wave type, or the Honda 6500 watt invertor generator. Cheers.

Backup for P68... My head hurts

Final Update, The Yamaha 1000 watt generator runs the pellet stove for 24 hours, on a gallon of gas. We got the generator from Cabelas on sale, with a extra year (4 years) warranty, with a $100.00 cabelas card (So another $100.00 off). The ef1000is is extremely light and small. If it were to run...

Backup for P68... My head hurts

I started by saying i owned a xg8000e generator that runs the house but not the pellet stove, the xp-8000E which is $1000.00 more then the XG, is made to run even the pellet stove, or so they say.

Backup for P68... My head hurts

You are absolutely correct, although some say 20%, but in either case I don't want someone to have to learn what I did the hard way. If I knew what I knew now, and could turn the clock back, I would have purchased the XP8000E generac for the $2,800.00 and had non of these issues. -Rockbase-

Oh Yeah, that 12 hours run, is on 6/10th's of 1 gallon of gas. Im impressed.

Backup for P68... My head hurts

So now that we know an inverter is out of the question, Kerosine is out as it would be left downstairs unattended, otherwise it would be a good idea (thanks) So im at a small pure sinewave inverter generaor. I had 4 models I found that would work. 1) Gernerac 800, Pro = cost (< 400.00)...

Backup for P68... My head hurts

I got real numbers, and I dont want anyone else to have to go through this (thats why we share information right?) and also, if any of the inverter people want to correct a formula or something, they can. SO here goes. I put a amp meter on the stove, when starting, everything except the...

Backup for P68... My head hurts

Ok, I should have said, My house has central ELETRIC heat, costs me about $300.00 plus a month in the winter, and that's heating upstairs with downstairs being 10f cooler. However, for $200.00 in pellets, I keep up and downstairs at 72f. So the pellet stove was a backup for the electric heat...

Backup for P68... My head hurts

Actually that sounds like the best idea so far, Run the stove on the cheap gererac, and the house runs on the XG8000e. Just sorry I need to have 2 generators.

Backup for P68... My head hurts

Yeah, chicken or the egg. If the generator charged the Pure sinewave UPS, then the UPS would never supply power to the stive as it would think power is on. Did I say that ???

Backup for P68... My head hurts

Just to be sure everyone understand, The XG800e is not a true sinewave generator. I would have to purchase at $2,500.00 Plus tax, the XP-8000E version.

Backup for P68... My head hurts

That is a short term fix, good though. It would buy me a few hours of backup. It only provides true sinewave when on battery, so running the generator through it wont allow the generator to run the stove. But it does buy time.

Backup for P68... My head hurts

This website has a whole bunch of "Dont run your pelletstove with a non true sinewave generator" posts. Thats why I havent done it. wouldnt want to wreck a $3000+ stove just to see if it works on the generator.

Backup for P68... My head hurts

Ok, So a while back when we purchased out house, we also purchased a backup generator, which is wired to provide the house power. As you know, the pellet stove only works on a true sign wave generator. I have no idea why since my 2 offices with pc's, large screen tvs, ect all work fine with the...

Who is using a regular generator with pell stove & how r u doing it.

Ok, Not exactly true, basic ohms law states the E (voltage) = I (Current/Amps ) x R (Resistance) So resistance stays the same (unless something changes it like you), so a 120v circ / 60ohms = 2amps. Then lets say voltage dropped to 100volts divided by same 60 ohms now equals about 1.666 amps...

    Harman battery backup

Just a late FYI, I installed a XG8000e generator to power some of my house, less the pellet stove which im working on a solution for. I did buy and install a small UPS BE750G to shut down the stove if power goes out. The Just FYI is, I tested it, it worked as advertised, and the stove...

    Pellet Shortage?

Home depot here, selling at under $5.00 a bag, and when we buy at the local store that sold us our stove, we get 4.22 per bag but thats a 50 bag price. Just fyi, we burned almost 5 tons so far this winter.

    P68 controls

when the ash lip iscleaned, flame goes straight up, when the ash lip builds up (Quickly at 4 setting) heat is great but flame touches glass in door. Ive been told this is ok. Im just not used to seeing that.

    P68 controls

Yes, I know this to be true, the walls and floor are all concrete. However, if you take the cost of insulating the walls and floor, and the assumption that you will cut your costs for pellets in half, it would take 15 to 20 years to break even. So the payback is to low. But a good thought.

Well I used to have, years ago, a lopi wood stove. The flames never touched the glass. Im not used to that and while I know the glass is tempored, it just seems strange to me. Thanks for the reply.

    P68 controls

How do I upload a 15 second video clip to see / show if my stove is running normal. Once the ash lip has formed, the flame tilts towards the glass which may or may not be ok.

Its solid ice out, no where to go. So ust a quick test to see what makes it tick. FYI, i have it set on 3.5 now. Thanks for the help, and replies.

    P68 controls

well that would make sense. If I had it on the second floor vs the basement, I could see it overheating the rooms. In my case, im am heating at the stoves max ability. On real cold weeks, stove temp would probably be a better option for me. Thanks everyone for the help. I understand my unit a...

    P68 controls

Maybe your right. I am anal about efficiency :) Now, does the blower adjust its speed ? (Dist blower), or do I have a flaky pot? Doug

    P68 controls

Yes, you are correct, it does not. I have done the following test(s) Since Harman states in its owners manual, to set the stove to max stove temp, auto, and feed rate of 4 (I think), run for 1/2 hr and adjust feed rate up/down to obtain a 1" ash lip. I assumed (silly me) that this meant the...

    P68 controls

yes, being a engineer i would think that i could control the pellet feed with this. but even at 1 it achieves a 1 to 1.5 ash lip.

Greetings, I have 2 questions. 1) Does the P68 dist fan vary by its-self. I notice that when I have it in room temp, auto, and the blower switch on high (All thee way) the fan runs on a reduced speed, maybe even varies speed and I do not notice it. However, turn the switch (pot) back slightly...
