    Short bars on 50cc saws?

I ran a Dolmar 5100 for years with a gb pro top 13" bar. I still have a couple of those bars. I now have a 550 with a 16" I also got made fun of for year for the short bar. Faster chain speed, less teeth to sharpen and wicked performance. Balance is fine. Then again I ran 20" on modded 70-80cc...

    first lawn tractor, any tips?

Abuse? hardly. Because I had the Kubota long before I got my mini tractor. BTW, the G1900 is not abused. you could get one with a 3 point hitch (1K option). you could put a direct drive tiller on it, as well as plenty of other factory Kubota attachments. They even made a rear weight bar that is...

    first lawn tractor, any tips?

It won't for a few years.. lawn tractor tires are relatively cheap anyways. Those stupid 35lb composite wheel weights they sell are a joke anyways. I built a rear receiver for my Kubota G1900 (real lawn mower/garden tractor, no pto or three point). I use it to move trailers and also have a...

    muffler mod question

most of the ones I've seen run around 4-600.. if it is more than that, it is usually a tad on the lean side. i'd rather have a little fudge factor. tuning in the summer will like result in a melted saw come 20 degree winter air (cool dense air more volume). Not 100% on the brand new saws as I...

    first lawn tractor, any tips?

why do you say that? I live out in the country and don't need a golf course looking pattern.... as others have said, I have a helluva ditch. I use chains all year round as well as proplelyne glycol in the rear tires. Winshield washer fluid has alcohol in it and will rot the tires.

    muffler mod question

he's talking on the L jet, leaner down low has nothing to do with top end. muffler mods do not always mean more rpm. It needs more fuel up top (h) because it is getting the burnt mixture out faster that it was, as a result takes in more air so it needs more fuel. Just opening the muffler rarely...

The Freak stopping in to say hi

Hey sean. Yup, I sure! They work great for transporting them up to the house. I got them full of seasoned wood ready to burn. One has some leftover slabwood all the other stuff is out on pallets out back. I was able to score a couple Ropak lids from work that they were throwing out and they work...

at least we agree on something, and that might be the smartest thing that has come out of your keyboard on this thread. Send me your address and i'll send you a couple loops or ten of skip chain. west coast "hardwood" is trash wood here that most of us wont even burn. when you understand the...

036 to 372 is apples and cucumbers as far as port work goes. is your 61 ported? that's where they shine and why I told you to trade a 36 for a 61.. yes, it is a mini 372.....I have no issues helping you out, but let me tell you I've ruined 20-30 jugs over the years "learning"what works and what...

Will Stihl oil kill my husky? Can I use used motor oil as two stroke mix when I'm out? I don't like using canola oil for bar oil, you can't see it on the bar so I use the red atf. works great

Yeah I sold mine after running a 550xp... it runs just as hard as any 60ccsaw I've ever ran.. I'll get a 562xp someday and put a 13" bar on it because we don't need anything bigger in shimply bar land

Haven't been on AS in years.. If I am so wrong about skip chain, show me one harvester that uses skip chain. Maybe you should take your big bar envy back to AS. I'll also add that skip chain is for lazy people that don't want to sharpen their chain. They do have their place, just not on the...

When did you cross over to the darkside? how those xp's treating you? 22" maple and both of these saws were ported with 20" bars and off the reel round ground stihl RS chain. the 372 has a ton of work done to it. I ran it in stock appearing race saw classes on nitro, so that's not really...

not to split hairs, but a 440 in hardwoods will not run a 32" bar effectively, not to mention we don't get the High Output oilers the west coast saws have. That's apples to cucumbers comparison to oak and maple that we cut. around here in hardwood country most loggers run a 20" on a 460 and a...

    New build: freestanding vs. zero-clearance?

I would venture to recommend a free standing. I just put in a ZC last winter, and while it kicks out the heat, I think a free standing would be more efficient

quite a bit faster. The 290 is a 56cc mid range saw for people that cut 2-3 cord a year imo. The 440 is 70cc saw. it will rip through some 20" hardwood. I'm kind of a saw snob, but for years I only cut with a 65-70cc saw for just firewood. the older I get I like the lighter saw (260 sized) for...

24 to 30" is a big jump. A 440/460 will run a 24" just fine, but will struggle on the larger 32" bars. when I had a 440, 460 and 660, I ran a 20" on the 440 25" on the 460 and a 28-36" on the 660. The 660 is a heavy brute and will wear you out right quick. a 440/441/460/461 would be ideal...

How small of a bar on a 50cc saw?

I run a 20" on my ported 372 that does 75% of my cutting. the rest is done bny a 50cc saw with a 13" bar. it was a dolmar 5100, it is now a husky 550xp.

    Building the MS460

I wouldn't weld the magnesium... too many guys have tried and ruined their cases. JB would be your best bet... I have a bunch of 046 parts if you need anything specific...I know I have a couple good topends. I do not like aftermarket topends on the bigger pro saws, they just don't last.
