Yes, the effective range is about 2-6, referencing a clock face. Draft will determine how low you can run.

Make certain you have the mfg's minimum chimney length as well. Dry wood, sufficient draft to pull in enough air to burn hot = happy customer.

Blaze King King- excessive smoke out the door?

Go out and look up. If you’re getting smoke after 20 minutes or so on a reload, take a can of compressed air and blow out the cat. Try again. If that doesn’t make a difference, go for the full blown distilled water and vinegar bath treatment. You will need a new gasket..

    Introduction and various questions

OP, I'm traveling in NY this week headed to KOP by Thursday....yesterday we visited 4 dealers and each had some Step 1 stoves remaining. (Must be sold by May 15th) This applies to both wood and pellet heaters. I might suggest you look at some Italian made, very low clearance required pellet...

Older Blaze King and Blower Fan and Side Panels

So the flame shield, 3rd image, looks good. The primary air tube, second image, someone did a crappy after market weld. So when room air hits a hot cat, it cause fractures, thermal shock. Early designs relied on the secondary air to help get enough air the the combustor. Unfortunately what...

Older Blaze King and Blower Fan and Side Panels

So the first thing to note is we never made ducts that fit onto the fan assembly. So that is a field modification, The hole in the side feeds room air into a tube and delivers it directly to the combustor. We subsequently learned that room air (not pre heated) could cause thermal shock the...

So it's either a PEJ 1000 or PEJ 1001 or 1002. Both versions had round combustors. The 1000 had 4 secondary air tubes and a cat, the first Hybrid stove ever made. Not many of them were made. If it does not have the 4 air tubes, you have 1001 or 1002. The bypass on these was a lifting style...

I answered that email myself. It stated the model was an Earth Stove. That is why you were directed to IHP.

Blaze King Chinook as great as Princess and King ?

Highbeam, we made no changes! We just supplied a larger gasket to those that had concerns. In a few cases, liners were added to masonry chimneys. And I read it the way it was written.

Is this really what you took away.. "this should be a concern with any 30 box"? Highbeam, 1 in 7,000+ units?

Blaze King Chinook as great as Princess and King ?

Highbeam, drop the brochures. We sell thousands of these very year. Other than a single SC30.1 that had a smoke smell issue, what gives? Not a single consumer has said the stove doesn't satisfy their needs. And while the fireboxes are the same as the AF series and CK series, the door mounting...

Blaze King Chinook as great as Princess and King ?

Agreed! We sell thousands of them and yet no real mention...rarely that is. OP, As for the Chinook, you will want the fans! In order to really effectively move the warm air between the firebox and the top, fans make a huge difference.

Blaze King Chinook as great as Princess and King ?

Highbeam, the the number of "nagging recurring smoke smell issues" has dropped of considerably. If you study the actual 24 cases across North America in 2018 and prior to that, only 4 or so seem to be difficult to resolve.

KEJ1101 or KEJ1100. The 1100 was not EPA approved. If the combustor is round, you have a 1100. If the combustor is oval, it is a 1101. Someone has significantly altered the fan system to also accommodate for what appears to be a rear heat shield (again modified). The air tubes that fed the...

    Newbie looking for advice

To the OP. I just returned from a road trip in Arkansas, Tennessee and Georgia. On average, across the 3 states, dealers had between 12-15 Step 1 heaters. Two dealers had more than 100 units. On average, retail prices were 40-50% discounted for Step 1 models. As the May 15th deadline does...

Well, hate to break it to you all, there is an EPA approved coal/wood combo from my friends at WSS! EPA funded R&D work with WSS and another manufacturer. They needed a product for the Navajo Nation/Four Corners change out program. Yes...it's catalytic. The trick is to not let sulfur...

If you could "test drive" 3 different stoves, what would they be and why?

For the past 9 years, state and Federal regulators push European "clean burning" heaters to the forefront during meetings. Several US labs have tested many of the "clean burning" European stoves and very, very few pass. What happened? Their test method was and still is vastly different than...
