    Indoor boiler located in shed?

My Froling does not require any monitoring. It's as "set it and forget it" as it gets. It's a 10 minute job to load and light it then it does everything else. Just like using any other wood burning appliance, you learn to load the amount required for your heating demand. This is based on the...

    Indoor boiler located in shed?

Josh, I built a 6x10 room off the corner of my basement (walkout) and installed a new Froling boiler and 800 gal SOLARTECHNICS storage tank. Its integrated into my existing controls thanks to Tarm's BLT controller. I can fit almost a face cord of wood in the room which lasts me one week during...

    Horrendous wood score.

That's why I find it a little aggravating that a site staff member would imply they are breaking laws. Its unfounded and inappropriate in my opinion. Have a good day.

    22% Moisture content firewood

My experience is 20-22% moisture is fine to burn with no deposits forming and no concerns. Your experience may differ.

    Horrendous wood score.

You could assume that the tree company knows the laws and is abiding by them. Hence, maybe that's why they are giving the wood away locally... or you could just assume they are violating laws. Whatever suits your fancy.

Tesla Model 3 Parked in Our Garage

All these problems could be solved a lot easier than we think. Plus, a gasification system is considered carbon neutral. :)

    BK wood stove issues

If you truly had 15% moisture or less then you should not get creosote building up like you described. Make sure you split a fresh piece of wood and test in the center on the new split face. How tall is your overall chimney? I'd strongly recommend you consider getting double wall interior pipe...

    Chain dull in two hours?

IMO they have varying quality levels of tools. I think their drills are just as good as Makita, better than craftsman and just below dewalt. That's for the 18 and 20 volt tools. If you get the smaller ones they quality and build suffers.

Help ID Wood - Should I Use?

First pic is ash (maybe popular), second is beech. Even if the first happens to be Aspen I would mix it in with the rest. Yes you should use both, both dries fast and gives good heat. The beach is a little slower dying but if you cut it earlier enough it should be ready in one season (20-23%)...

    Is it all over?

I'll be burning firewood for domestic hot water until middle of June. I might have to light a fire once a week. Once the humidity starts to pick up I'll switch over to my heat pump hot water heater to keep my basement cool and dry. Hopefully I have enough firewood to make it until June. It's...

Keeping track of pounds of wood burned to measure use?

My Froling calculates how much wood needs to be loaded to recharge my storage tank. Based on what its calling for I know roughly how full to fill my firebox. If it's really cold out I can put a little extra in because the high demand the house has needs to be satisfied also during the few hours...

Keeping track of pounds of wood burned to measure use?

In my opinion it is the way to go because all species have nearly the same btu/lb. This does not consider differences in moisture content but suffice to say that if you have wet wood you are probably going to burn more wood because less BTU's can be utilized from the wet qood...

    Boiler return temp protection

I have a froling and storage. Tarm Biomass provided the system schematic and they have two options for the return temp protection. They recommend, and I opted for the ThermoVar LK823 valve and separate Grundfos circulator. The froling controls activate the circulator to siphon off the boiler...

I agree. For $1K I can get a log truck plus a pup trailer.

    VaporFire 100 question install

Based on my personal experience with a BK King installed in my basement and connected to a clay lined chimney, I would strongly advise he stay away from any of the BK line of stoves unless he installs an insulated liner or Class A manufactured chimney. It's a sure recipe for creosote in the top...

    Froling Error Message

Got it all straightened out with the help of Tarm. I lit a fire last night and after about 30 minutes I changed the moisture setting from >15% moisture to <15%. This setting limits the maximum opening of the primary air damper to 65% open... we believe that setting change mid burn had something...

    Froling Error Message

Wife called me this AM and said the boiler had an error message, primary air flap blocked. I'm heading home to investigate. Anyone have something similar happen?

    This look like three cords?

That doesnt seem like a good price to me but your regional price may very. I can get log length for $90/cord if I want mixed oak/hard maple/beach/cherry. If I want mixed hard/soft maple/ash/cherry then about $80/cord.

    Sweet Spot-Gasification

Have you checked your flue temperature set point in your controls? I wouldnt change it but it may give you some insight as to the numbers you are seeing. My flue temperature during peak operation is typically 350-400F. I dont recall the exact maximum flue temperature during operation but I...

Grundfos Circulators - What's the difference?

    Bio Bricks & Wet Wood

Untrue to en extent. If the wood has a higher moisture content than the ambient air inside the house then the wood will tend to add moisture to the surroundings as its stacked and waiting to be burned. For those that bring their entire winter supply of wood into their basement moisture control...

Grundfos Circulators - What's the difference?

Well, here is the blue in I have. Here is the red one I have. The one not working is the blue one. Best I can tell either one will work, both are UP15-42F... I'd rather not have to buy an entirely new pump if I didnt have to but I dont know that i can get just a new motor and impeller.

I need to replace a Grundfos UP 15-42F that is not working in one of my zones. It is blue in color but I also have a red one for a different zone. I dont understand the difference between the two. Can anyone explain a difference besides color?

Help deciding on a wood boiler, indoor vs outdoor?

If you haven't done so yet I would encourage you to consider Froling for indoor cord wood boiler. I am highly impressed with the ease of use and efficiency. The primary difference comes down to thermal storage. Some of them you reference would operate ok without stand alone thermal storage...
