    Heating basement from above room.

There is already a stove down there. So I could just run that on the really frigid nights. I'm not concerned about keeping it at a consistent temperature downstairs. I just want to keep the pipes warm.

    Heating basement from above room.

Hi guys, I have a rancher with about 1300sqft on the main level. Currently I have an Ideal Steel in the basement and Quadra fire 4300 act on the brick hearth in the living room right above the Ideal Steel. Two fantastic stoves. I have always used the basement stove as the main heat...

Weird smell at 650f and above

Don't worry about it yet. Give it some time and see if it improves. It always takes a long time to get rid of fumes when you hit high temperatures.

Help me upgrade and upsize my wood stove!

I think you are safe with the Ideal Steel. You can dampen it down enough to get a very long consistent burn and not overheat that area. If you crank the stove though it will certainly run you out of there. It has as good a chance or better than any other stove in my opinion. It has radiant and...

englander 30 vs englander 28-3500 furnace

Makes perfect sense to me. A woodstove is a space heater. There is only so much it can do.

    Woodstock's new stove

I ran 14 hour reload cycles this weekend. I keep the thermostat set at 68 and the heat never came on. It was 20-30 out with snow. I left my house all day Sunday and didn't get home till 10. The house was nice and warm with plenty of coals still in the stove when I got home. This wasn't even...

    Woodstock Ideal Steel owners

This stove makes wood heating easy. I will say that it is extremely sensitive to draft. Not enough means smoke spillage. Too much means going through wood quicker. The good news is that a little fine tuning of the air control and exhaust damper and it works perfect. I work 10-12 hours a day all...

    Woodstock's new stove

Hi, I love the stove. It is overkill for my house at about 1800 sqft. The nice thing is that even though it is oversized it is well mannered. You can dial it way down so it doesn't overheat the place. The fire power is there when you need it too.

    Upgrade to Stihl 034AV?

The Poulan Pro 5020 is actually a pretty decent saw. I did upgrade the bar with a good chain. It's kind of the flag ship of the brand and I believe it's actually built by Husquavarna too.

    Woodstock's new stove

I can't speak for the Progress, but the Ideal Steel can have the cat cleaned very quickly while the stove is still warm. Of course welding gloves are good for doing this. It's as simple as flipping the lid up and pulling off a deflector plate. You could easily do this during the coaling stage.

    Upgrade to Stihl 034AV?

Hi guys, I'm playing the craigslist game with a guy trying to sell a cheapo 4 wheeler that's only worth about $200. He offered me a trade for a Stihl 034AV saw. Good condition, starts on the first pull, chains dull though. I currently have a Poulan Pro 20" bar pp5020av saw with Oregon bar...

Newbie stove owner needing to learn

Try this. Put the enviro bricks on the bottom. Put some small splits on top of the bricks. Add kindling, newspaper, fatwood, etc on the very top preferably just below the secondary pipe work assuming it has that. Use plenty of it the first time. With practice you will learn how much you need...

    Woodstock Ideal Steel owners......

Sorry, I'm late for the show. Given the fact that this stove is a rear or top vent you should be able to just pop the cover off that goes over the rear vent outlet and go in from there. I can't guarantee it would work but I'm not sure why it wouldn't.

    Suggestions- Rear Exit Stoves

I'll have to check when I get home. It's in the neighborhood of 18" because i don't have any problem doing it. You can take the andirons out in about 5 seconds and leave them out if you don't need or want them.

    Suggestions- Rear Exit Stoves

I have the Ideal Steel. I have one of the early production units. They made a lot of changes and modifications since mine ( I got some of them for free) so I imagine a new one is even better. It has been a fantastic stove and the best part about a hybrid is it would still work even if the...

    Cat stoves and pine

I have an Ideal Steel Hybrid. I have lots of access to good hardwood. However, I love burning pine far more. You can fill up on dry pine and have the bypass closed in 5 minutes. A few minutes later the air is closed down. It requires very minimal tinkering with the air controls. Drop the...

    Ideal Steel Hybrid help!

If I had to guess, no offense op, but I suspect there was atleast one occasion where the stove was run with the bypass open and forgotten. It took a lot of heat to warp that metal that much. I've taken mine over 600 plenty of times before closing the bypass and it's never warped.

Is copper beech a good firewood? Good coaling properties? Does it make a lot of ash? Better split large or small? Thanks for any replies.
