Hey everyone.

I've never used a house cleaner, but I'm starting to consider it. Just getting a little tired of the routine cleaning every week, and never feeling like I've got all of the dirt, dust, cat hair, etc. For anyone who has or currently uses a housecleaning service, what do you have them do?

Do you do certain bits of your own cleaning, and just have them do other specific pieces, or do you basically leave everything for the cleaning crew? Do you have a list of specific items they do, dusting, vacuum, countertops, windows, etc? How often do you have them come by the house?

Any tips or things to know, besides making sure to pick a reputable service?

Pick up ALL the clutter. They will do all the house cleaning including bathrooms. We've always hired locals as opposed to a cleaning service word of mouth is how we've found ours. Always paid cash. Both our grown daughters have cleaning ladies, life is too short to stick your head in a toilet bowl cleaning. Once you find one plan on meeting and discussing what’s expected. Your looking for someone/company trustworthy

Yes we have cleaners who come every other week, best decision I ever made. They clean the whole house from top to bottom, scrub the bathrooms and kitchen, change the sheets in the bedroom.
They will clean regardless of what state the house is in, but I find that if I leave too much clutter around they will hide it on me and sometimes I find something weeks later that I was looking for, in a random drawer. So we try to tidy a bit before they arrive also to make their job easier.

You don't have to use a big name cleaning company, I'm sure you can find plenty of local 1- or 2-person outfits or someone who does it on the side who will do a good job and probably charge less due to lower overhead. Pay cash and tip well if you like their service.
