We want to make a hearth for our new PE Alderlea T5 out of Pennsylvania Bluestone. We are planning on putting down plywood, then Hardiboard, then our bluestone and mortar. Do we then make a frame on the sides out of plywood or 2x4? Am I missing something else? Any suggestions would be very appreciated!

You can frame or finish out however suits you.. Make sure the hearth is large enough for clearances to be met.. Look in the gallery section for finish ideas..

see signature link, pictures of construction etc with similar stove, with similar hearth materials that you are considering.... in this case, the bluestone sits on top of the stone, no plywood etc, just stone.
