Hello! I was outside today and noticed a pattern of snow melt that falls in the "shadow" of my chimney. I can't recall if this has happened in years past or not.

Is this normal?

The interior ceilings of that room are vaulted, so there isn't an attic so to speak of that the chimney runs through. Not sure what the insulation in that area is like.

The wood stove is a Blaze King Ashford 30 and the pipe is double walled as recommended by BK and sold by the dealer.

I took photos from each side of the roof.

Normal. Unlikely there is a lot of insulation below the crown.

Interesting. I have a similar issue but mine is ceiling-rafters-roof (no attic or crawl space). Only about 18" total. The insulation appears good, but within those rafters, I notice the snow melt as well. I'm going to get mew stove and chimney pipe soon, so I think I will add that wrap and see if it helps.

I looked it up. It is just a Rockwool (stone wool) wrap. The 48"x12"x2" thick is $84 plus shipping. Rockwool at the local orange big box for 60 s/f of rockwool is under $80 and $3 delivery, in my area. Other brands are even less. I was recently insulating my utility room. I added rockwool for fire protection and to keep the noise from penetrating into our home. I have plenty left over. I know what it will be going for.

Heat rises and radiates. If you have fiberglass insulation, the heat will move through it.
