Can it be cleaned with a liquid? Mine in my stove door has copper screen over it so you cant use a cloth, how do you get the soot off?

You can use a cleaner, but the best way to keep it clean is to burn a hot fire with good dry wood at least once a day.

Why not? For a cleaner, a mild soap with a soft brush (maybe a soft toothbrush) is recommended.

Mica has a hardness of about 2.5 on the Mohs scale of mineral hardness. So does a fingernail. Don't clean it with anything that would scratch your fingernail. A soft tooth brush, as mentioned above, would probably work.
