It is going to be cold this weekend in NE. Lows are going to be in the mid 30s. Can't wait to fire up the Jotul!!

I know what you mean about the dog- mine will stop being as much a noodge for attention now that she can worship the stove.

We have the most attention-needy dog on the planet, I'm pretty sure. When I'm eating my cherios in the morning, he's on my lap. When I'm watching TV at night, he's on my lap. Problem is, he's a 55+ # basset hound, not a dog intended to be a lap dog. This all goes away when the stove is going. Just last night I asked my wife "Where's the dog?" - so I go check, and he's laying on his back, spread-eagle with his t-rex arms up in the air, right under the ash lip. This morning he went and checked to see if it was still warm (it wasn't) before taking his position on my lap. Its pretty entertaining.
LOL JMan! We have 2- the needy one is 9-10# and a serious lap dog. When I'm around- only my lap will do. She gets jealous of my laptop computer and climbs on it. gets between the wife and me on purpose sometimes. Then in stove season- she lays next to it until she gets hot, then moves across the room, then back... moves every 30 mins or so.
and my collie just begs to be outside when I have the stove going, I wish I could get her to stay in with me, but it's too hot for her....

My cat slow roasts/bastes himself about 10 feet from the fire....every 20 minutes or so he rotates a quarter turn, fully outstretched.
ya but the Sox are going to continue to heat it up!!

Its been about a week since my last burn!with temps at night dropping into the 30s this weekend i just may light her up in the evenings.
cmon guys hold out a little longer ... use extra blankets.. etc save the wood for when actually gets cold!!lol
when the highs are in the forties ...WE BURN ... 50's ahhh we can make ... cmon guys lets see who can hold out....
like brother bart said .. we have the itch to burn now... but in a couple of months its gonna be a pita!!

If you got it in spades and it is kicking on the furnace, burn that sucker. I have three big piles that are seasoned and 2 huge stacks that were done this year. I'm going to smile when I get home from work and the stove is going. It was fairly warm out today, but the house was chilly, guess what, wife built a fire, still going now and it is nice/ almost too warm. But, all are happy and that allows me to go out cutting another day. She hates it when I'm out cutting (esp. past diner time like last night, but it is ok when that equals a warm night fire). Had a fire last night , hard frost this morning. My wife got home from work around 8:30 last night and I had the fire cranking, cold beer, and ESPN... sounds
almost perfect except I fell asleep on the couch and woke up alone at 1:30 AM. It sure was warm though!

I think the only drawback with having a good wood fire going is that snuggle and cuddle time with wife or girlfriend might decrease abit. :down:
Too bad about those Red Sox... Oh well, snow in the forcast for Wednesday in Maine. Plenty of burning ahead.
Hey Soxfan and other 550 Rockland owners, What log length do you find works best for the 550? Twenty four " is a little to big. Most of my wood is cut to 16". Temperature here was 27 this morning. The labrador (not a lap dog) and the two cats are usually vying for the best spot in front of the stove and then lay there spread eagled to absorb the most amount of heat. PS My sympathy to all the sox fans out there, I was hoping they could pull it off. Well , next year.
