In The Woods
Dropped the dead standing which turned out to be punky so I bucked it up and left it for some outside fires, what is the pink color in the splits?

Not sure what the pink is, but the rest is splatted makes nice turning blanks if it was solid!

What punk? If there's any punk there it seems very insignificant. Nothing wrong with a little punk on otherwise good wood. Dry punk acts like a firestarter and helps get the fire going quickly. It also acts like a sponge so be sure to keep it dry. I sure wouldn't waste that wood on the fire pit.

is that Ash?

I see a lot of spalting in box elder around here. Most of the time the wood is marginal, but still burnable in the stove.

I don't see punk. Am I missing something? Burn away !!
