Maybe a stupid question, but I was wondering if anybody could
give me a short education on the differences in chains(safety, semi-chisel etc.)

The chain companies' websites have good pictures of all of them.
The rakers/bumpers/depth-of-cut guides on a "safety" chain usually stand proud of the cutters when rounding the tip, thus reducing the chance of kickback.
