Does split wood get bigger? Pics included

So I decided to see how much wood expands when split. I took two containers of the same size and loaded one with normal 4-6" splits of pine and used the splits to make kindling. Look at the results!

Just having some fum!
Here is what I actually ended up with!
About 10% more volume after.

Depending on how dry it is, you might get 10% shrinkage and be right back where you started.

It's 2 year old pine <10% MC so hopefully no more shrinkage! If it does hopefully the containers will keep the piles from falling over!
