After hearing all the praise here about the Fiskars SSA, I bought one off amazon and tried it this weekend.
Wish I had done this two seasons ago! Great tool.
I had some maple rounds (1 truck bed full) that my maul and luddell splitting axe would simply bounce off of. Took the Fiskars SSA to it and all I can say is WOW. Unbelievable. Never thought a tool could make that much difference. Sharp, super light, and it went thru those maple rounds like they were nothing. Indestructable too. Great tool. Might go all season without having to rent a splitter!
