Looking at these:

Lopi Leyden
VC Encore Cat
Quadrafire Cumberland Gap
Hearthstone Shelburne

From what I've read here, I would tend to expect a better (looking) fire from the Quadrafire and Shelburne. Thoughts?

Thanks in advance,

John

Posting reply mainly for others who may search on this topic in the future.

As far as I can tell from reading here, the non-cat burn tubes (Cumberland Gap and Shelburne) will have a generally better flame appearance than the Encore Cat, which is generally better than the Lopi Leyden.

But it's also a matter of taste and individual stove draft, with many folks have good luck with and love the Cat and Leyden views.
