My prefabricated Majestic wood burning fireplace has been condemned because the firebox and flue are rusted. I am in the process of getting bids for a new wood burning fireplace. I have been getting bids from $3,600 to $7,000. Why such a wide discrepancy? I have just begun to read about fireplace inserts. Should I also investigate in the possibility of installing a fireplace insert?

If that fireplace is condemned. Forget about putting an insert in it. Period.
