Just curious, as of now I do not have much in the way of fireplace tools. Just a cheap set that has done the job for the handfull of fires we have. So, what is absolutely needed, what are "nice to have" items, etc.? Not going to be using full time for heat this year but hoping for a fire most every night if possible.

Gloves: Avoid the pain and burns.
Shovel: To move the wood around or remove ash.
Ash can: Either to move the ash into inside . . . or to dump the ash pan into the ash can outside.
Cheap dust pan and whisk broom: To clean the mess on the hearth.
Thermometer(s): To help you run your stove safely and efficiently.

I have other tools, but these are my essential tools.
