Just saw a Stihl banner ad at the top of the page! NICE! You know you are doing something right with one of the big saw brands is paying for space! I mean, when I saw Lee's ad up there, I knew hearth.com had really taken it to the next level, but this is even a level above that, lol.

I do notice the quality of ads have been going up - but that is less about us, and more about the companies learning about the internet and therefore placing properly targeted ads on google adsense (which then puts them here)...

Another part of it is that ads now follow YOU around. If you were on other sites looking at chain saws or anything related, you'll see the same ads showing up when you surf to other sites. Google follows you based on what you look at.

AHHHHHH, google Adsense. I think I knew that's what you used instead of direct paid ads.

There ARE several ads I see rolling through for companies I do business with.

Why are all the ads I see for porn sites? :red:

I was working late one night not too long after we got Internet access at the office. Back when Lycos was the king of search. I had heard about chat rooms and did a search. Just clicked on the first one that came along. It took a minute or two to figure out that it was a gay chat room. It actually took me a while to figure out how to try to quietly get the hell out of the thing.

Right. I believe the end goes more like this: "and 12 years later I'm a moderator of that chat room"

File - Close. I don't think you were trying very hard. ;-)

Didn't work that way on OS/2 with Netscape Navigator in 1993.

Right, it was File -> Close -> Hang or Crash back then.

I noticed that about the ads . . . I may be at other sites and have noticed targeted ads involving woodstoves or wood cutting equipment.

Speaking of porn and computers . . . a few years back I was still an idiot when it came to the internet . . . I would often do a search and just click on the first hit that came up instead of taking a good look at it . . . in any case, Great White played at The Station night club in Rhode Island and a lot of folks died . . . a day later someone said they thought the band had played and lit off fireworks at a local club in town so I figured I would go on-line and see if Great White had posted their tour dates and locations . . . typed in "Great White" and hit the first link . . . only to find myself at a website dedicated to obese naked white women . . . I quickly tried to click out of there only to have more pop-ups . . . meanwhile my female co-worker was wondering why I was frantically moving my mouse around to click out of all the sites . . . I ended up telling her to just stay where she was on the opposite side of the room. True story.

Similar story on thanksgiving. Told mom about great new website for Black Friday ads... "Come here and we'll look at all the deals, mom"... I didn't do a search, I just typed in what I thought I remembered. I was wrong.
