I am building a non pressurized 500 gallon hot water storage tank and was thinking about useing finned copper tubing from old baseboard heat instead of copper coils. They are copper tube with aluminum fins pressed on them. Has anyone tried this or have any opinon as to if this would work?

You may run into an issue with the aluminum dissolving do to galvanic corrosion. Copper pipe built as a manifold or copper coils transfer the heat the best. There are a bunch threads on both these topics if you do some searches.
