Looking at buying some type of heating unit for around the workbench in the garage and electric is not a option, any ideas.

zap

Is it a shop or garage?

No open flame in a garage its not to code and no electric. Very hard question...lol

Is there something I could hook up to a propane tank that is similar?

Theres all kinds of them zap, but open flame is against code in a garage. Keep that in mind.

I take it this is good, I'll check with the town code officer first.

Thats a portable heater may not be any codes for that! Gas vapor's is the issue. Keep it a couple feet off the ground if you go that route.

Zap, I had one of those and it works great! You can get them as a single or double. If it is too hot, you just shut the gas off a ways and that works great for adjusting to your needs rather than leaving it on high all the time.

They make the little gas heaters that attach to the top of a propane tank - nice and portable. They also make small salamander type heaters that use propane - very convenient. Like this one...

portable is the way to go, unless you want to violate some codes or spend some major cash. I decided to go this route as a temporary solution (by my workbench) until my larger stove gets running, but this isn't a garage...
