HF 7 ton Splitter Defect

My splitter started slowing down, looked like fittings were leaking , I tipped it on it's side to look at and tighten them , THEN, I find out because of a bad weld, it's leaking out of the top of the beam, (the beam serves as the tank) you can see in pic there is actually a small hole that's where it is leaking ,
so there is probably air in the system RIGHT ???

Now , I could fix this but, I bought it in Nov. 2012,It has a 1 year warranty against defects ,
so I think I should just take it back and get a new one .

You don't have to worry about air in the hydraulic system. You have to remember that the hydraulic tank isn't filled to the brim. So your tank has air in it. That's why the suction line to the pump in on the bottom on the reservoir. The only time you would have to worry about air in the system and hurting the pump is if your tank was very low and you ran it for a while. Then you would have done what's called caveating the pump. You would know if it was doing that because the pump would be making a horrific noise.

You could either grind out the crack and reweld it. Or take a chance and hope you get one better if you do exchange it.

Take it back and get a replacement. If it was beyond warranty, we could all sit around the DIY campfire and sing the songs and do the dances...but if you can just go exchange it for a new one, by all means do it. We'll all still be here around the campfire if it comes to that. Rick

I'm not sure why it was slowing down , It was not low on fluid, maybe I had it tilted the wrong way IDK, but I tightened the fittings ,took out the dip stick , stood it up and cycled it a few times, now it's working fine. Until now the splitter has worked great and I have been very happy with it.

But no matter, the hole is a defect , so there is no reason I should have to repair it, and I will have a brand new one, not one 7 months old, it is under warranty and the store is a short drive away.
It's already loaded up ready to take it back

There great on returns. I bought the floor nailer whenI did my floors. I wore it out after like 200 sqft. Took it back no questions. Other one was way better did more than the first one did without the failure signs the other one had after first few racks of nails. Point is sometimes they don't only have external defects but internal too. The qc is not the best

I got a new splitter BUT,for the 1 year manufactures warranty you have to go to the manufacture for that and send it some where , for the first 90 days you can take it to the store and get a replacement.

A long story short ,after going back n forth, I was able to buy the extended 2 year warranty, ( that I should have bought in the first place) got a new splitter ,and now I have 2year and 90 day warranty starting from this date.
Split a third of a cord with the new one, looked it over good, so far it's working as it should.
