On the outer limits of solar cell development, a new record efficiency of 39.5 percent has been achieved. III-V cell technology is not available for mass-market use yet, the primary market will be in space. The NRLE is working on bringing the manufacturing costs down. Hopefully, sooner than later. Panels with this degree of efficiency would be a boon to more northern latitudes.
