Ihave an insert installed in a prefab fireplace. Can i put insulation on top and in back, and on the sidesof it? Could this possibly overheat the box and make things dangerous? appreciate any replys . Mike

Why do you want to do that?
If it's because of cold air coming down the vent, simply block it off,
around the liner where it passes thru the damper area...
Not sure if an insulating blanket around the insert will void your warranty...
I'd contact Quadrafire (thru HHT?) & ask a tech...

It was to keep excess cold air coming in. i know u cannot block airflow on an aircooled chimney.

Check your install manual. You can block off the damper area of the inner pipe.
That will not affect the air-cooling sections of the outer pipe...

i have mine in an exterior fireplace - i lined the fireplace with rockwool

Doesn't mean that Quadrafire approves it.
I'd STILL check with a tech...
If Quadrafire says it's ok, then I'd go for it...
'Course the AHJ has final say...
