I found a Jonsered 90 chainsaw on CL for $240 it has a 20" bar and 3 chains. good buy? i dont know much about saws but i know i need a bigger one.




I also found a 272xp with a 24" bar 1 chain for $320

Dont know much about the Jred 90,other than its a 5.3cubic inch/87 cc beast & 32 yrs since it was produced.RPMs arent as high as same displacement saws made a few yrs later.If its in good shape I'd offer them $200 tops,replacement parts might be hard to find now,even with ebay.

That is going pretty "old skool". If you are not overly familiar with saws, I would not point you to that one. For a bit more, you could probably find a much newer machine (think anti-kick back break) and still get you a machine that could run a bigger bar. Lots of MS390's out there (simply one example).

Ok what about the husky 272xp?
 
I love my 2054 Jonsered. Bought it new back in the 90s, but the 90 model might not be your best investment unless you want it for the nostalgia.
 
When the price is right, the 272 is a saw you always buy ;) If it's in good running order, it will pull a 28" full comp nicely. Depending on condition $300 is not a bad price. It is a classic pro grade husky built to last.
