KemStone Boards - Heat Shield

  • Active since 1995, Hearth.com is THE place on the internet for free information and advice about wood stoves, pellet stoves and other energy saving equipment.

We strive to provide opinions, articles, discussions and history related to Hearth Products and in a more general sense, energy issues.

I am inspecting a wood stove that has KemStone Boards installed as a Heat Shield. Does any one have any information regarding their rating or if they are listed by any agency.

I haven't heard of this product. However, regardless of whether it's non-combustible (hope so), it doesn't qualify as an NFPA heat shield here. Even with the proper air gap behind it and open at the bottom and top, the minimum clearance reduction is to 12".

Is that an old Napoleon stove? Does it have a UL or Canadian certification label that states clearances? They look really close.
