I was able to scratch the end of the round with my finger nail fairly easy. The bark is kind of redish also. What do you think folks?

Thanks,
Bruce

Oh! What is the tell Thistle. The flaky bark? I have a couple more logs like this one.
Thanks

I second the silver maple. The sixth picture sold me. I have been burning nothing but silver maple this fall. It burns nice and clean and even pretty hot. It just does not leave a good bed of coals nor last all that long. It was totally seasoned in under six months which is nice.

Look at picture 5, pine needles. Bark also looks like pine in addition to the first 2 pictures of the logs look more like pine.
Keep in mind, I am wronge 9 out of 10 times.

Bruce, does it smell like pine? Silver Maple is pretty 'bland' not a strong smell like Oaks,Black Cherry,Black Walnut,Black Cherry,Hickories etc.

Soft Maple is correct. Could be silver,or red.

No it is not pine. I am surrounded 360 by 100ft standing pine Q-tips. Pine needles every where. It's just stuff from the ground.

Maple fo' sho'
Can see all the pines in pics 7/8

Assuming that there were no needles at all on this tree when cut?
