I'm thinking of installing one of these to heat my 600 sqft basement. Does anyone have any experience with either one? Thanks!

Had one about 15 years ago, it was a good little stove but had short burn times and was more effective with a blower. Should work fine for 600 sq ft unless it's surrounded by bare concrete walls.

Todd - do you remember which one you had? Its not for whole house heat so a shorter burn time might not be so bad. I am hoping for 6 hours. Thanks

I bought it in 1995, I think. Don't remember the model, but I did get 6-7 hr burns with Oak and Maple, probably a 3-5 hour good heat output.

Lopi Answer probably as I don't think the 1250 was around at that time.

I had the Avalon Pedelton, same specs as the Answer and you will get 6 hour burn times but the frustrating thing is you have to cut the splits small to be able to stuff the wood in. If you use 18 inch splits you will be only able to get 2 or 3 in. It is a nice burning stove so I would go with the Answer

They are the same size unit, the answer has the full "heat shield" that comes to the front of the unit for more of a heat transfer area and it has the more decorative door. You also get the 7 yr warranty with the answer vs. a 5 yr with the 1250. You do get a cook top surface with the 1250 so that could be an added benefit.

their bodies are exactly the same, but answer has a wrap around heatshield and is more expensive. the 1250 is basically the answer/ patriot with a cheaper door and side heat shields. either one will do the same job, and if i remember correctly, the fancier lopi answer door may fit on it (i'd check it out 1st, though). the 1250 will probably provide more radiant heat and a cooktop surface is nice. if you are planning on running a blower all the time to push the heat out to other areas, then the answer works better. they do have short burn times, but burn hot n clean. most important, the inside is pretty rugged, nice stainless tubes and brick baffles. they can match big stoves for heat output if you run 'em right, but to truly go overnight you'd best look at the endeavor/1750.

Everyone already posted what I would say.

I have an Answer and I am very pleased with it. It puts out a lot of heat with the right, dry wood.
