I did a quick search on these and found they were not all that well liked, at least I think it was the same company; Maine Woods Pellet Co. LLC. I have found a local dealer here in Southern VT who is offering them at $229/ton. I talked with the person in the shop and she said it was a 80% hardwood pellet. They gave me a bag to burn before I committed to the 4 tons or so that I will need for next season. Am I setting myself up for disaster here? It seems like a good deal. They said all their other brands will be going between $259 and $299/ton. Thanks in advance for any responses!

do a test run first, 10 bags

make sure they look like pellets should and not small black 1/4 pellets

These seem ok, a little longer and lighter in color but definitely look like pellets! LOL!

I just picked up 10 bags Maine Woods Pellets from the Stove Depot in Rutland. Going to try them out before I commit. After hearing all the problems users had
I hope they work OK because it is impossible to find a good deal around here. Sounds like The new pellet mill in North Clarendon is coming on line soon.If all goes well Vermont may finally have a local and reliable source for pellets.

Thats where I grabbed the bag from. I couldn't believe it. My wife was on her way to her parents sugarhouse in Ludlow and called me to tell me they had them for $229/ton, I almost fell over. Prior to that the cheapest I had found was $290/ton at TSC, we got them there last year for $239/ton. Now instead of hoping for warmer weather I am hoping it gets cool enough at night to get an accurate test done.

I was excited when I heard about the new pellet mill in North Clarendon. Have you heard if they are going to sell direct to customers or only to dealers? I have been able to find very little info other than the article in the Rutland Herald.

Apparently they plan to startup sometime in April. My wife passes by often on her way home from work and they now have a large stack of logs behind the plant. Good sign! I spoke to a friend recently who stopped by one day and talked to the owner. They do not plan to sell direct to the public. Instead they have a retail distributor in Middlebury who will be onsite every Saturday to take orders. No idea on pricing yet.
