HI ALL i am new to your site thanks for having us a little about us we are a family of 4 me the wife and 2 little girls I work as an industrial mechanic.I have been around my whole life (I think I used to nurse on a 2 stroke oil jug) my father sold fire wood and we heated with it my entire life when I was old enough to move out on my own I vowed to never burn another chunk of wood in my life well for about 6 yrs that was good but then we started feeling he crunch of heating a home and put a wood furnace in by far the best investment we ever made but then I needed a new saw a log splitter and a way to get the wood home first I used my quad and a trailer then I bought a bigger tractor then I finally settled on a old toyota 4x4 (i only travel about 150 feet from my driveway to the intrance to where I cut)so now came the saw I have had a few different poulans a home lite but have settled on a husqvarna 455 rancher and been using it for a couple of yrs my spitter is a husky 22 ton 6.5 hp but when I got it it had a bad motor so now it has a 17 hp b&s;with electric start I usualy try to cut about 6 to 7 cords for the yr (furnace in base ment and 2 fire places up stairs) so with the purchase of all my equipment in the last 2 yrs by burning wood what I saved in oil paid for all of it stove, truck, saw and splitter well sorry it is so long but thanks for having us

What a coincidence! I've been around my whole life, too! (Just ribbin' ya, fish...I figger you meant to say around "fire", or "woodburning" or something. I have fun with my own typos, too, sometimes.) Welcome to the forums! Rick

Welcome to the forum big_fish.

We too tried heating with oil instead of wood but that didn't last long. We were very happy to go back to burning wood and really didn't realize how much we missed it. So, back to making wood piles we went. We do haul our wood with an atv and trailer. With physical problems, after a trailer load we need a break anyway. It takes us probably 10 times longer to do our wood than if we were like we were a few years ago, but we get it done anyway. Have about a 7 year supply on hand right now so we do burn well seasoned wood.

You were wise in getting the wood splitter too. Although I used to enjoy splitting and did it for many years, I now use a splitter and love it. Makes easy and quick work of the splitting chore. Now if I could find someone to stack all that wood...

Stick around the forum. I'm certain you have much knowledge others can use. Thanks for joining and keep those females happy at all costs!

I, however, have not been around Fossil's whole life. I'm 38, so prolly not the first 45 years of his life. His loss really.

Welcome aboard Bigfish.

Yeah, I spent nearly 22 years wondering when you were gonna show up. I'm glad I was still around to see it actually happen. What took you so long? %-P Rick
