I've been burning silver maple lately and was hoping to finish out the season with it. Well looking at the forecast I don't think that's going to happen. Teens for Thursday, Friday and Saturday night. I guess I'll have to bring some ash back in.

3-4 inches of snow fell today, I'm ready for this to be over. Last week I had one night where I didn't need to load the stove, that was nice!

+1
I hear you! Spring fever here too.
20s at night , 35 to 40 daytime here. Over 12 hours of sun. Snow is melting slow. Snow showers maybe the next few days.
Small fires now, mostly burning spruce.
Hoping it's the last time I load the wood box this season.

They're calling for us to get close to a foot tonight/tomorrow.
We had a couple days last week where I didn't have a fire all day, just a small one in the morning, then before bed.
Still working on oak for the most part, but I have some spruce, maple, and popple when the weather finally breaks.

I figure we have another cord of fodder to go, been done with the good stuff for a few weeks though.

It's been 70+ for the last three days and I'm mad as heck (not really:)
1) It's too hot to burn the new stove.
2) I don't have my wood cut yet and feel like I'm missing out on good drying days. :shut:

High of 76 yesterday. Low of 30 tonight and 22 tomorrow night. NOT FAIR.

Looks like I'm going to have to wake the stove up tonight after giving it a week off.

I say 0 in March feels better than 50's in Novbemer! Out of a 10 cord block of hardwoods there is less than a cord and a half left. I figure its over when that little bit gone.

Almost 70 here Monday, mid 50's yesterday w/ heavy rain, wind, hail last night.Lo 40's today,mid-upper 30's through Sunday now.Firing it up today for the first time in over a week.

rdust the big snow will miss us but it is staying cold. Pushing in some wood (cherry) today and it looks like some white ash and beech will come in also.

All I have left is good stuff unless I dip into my outside pit firewood but probably not enough there to bother. We got about 6" snow last night and expect another 2+ today :(
It's my fault, I took the plow blade off the truck to get firewood over the weekend!

I was wondering who to blame.... still snowing up here, power on and off with branches falling on the lines. Don't know if I should even plow this one - probably make more of a mess than its worth??????

After a high in the 70's on Friday.... yes 70's !! Had to bring up about a third of a cord yesterday. (high in 50's) We got 6 inches last night, and are getting 2-5 tonight !!!! Next week or so Highs in the 30's overnights in the 20's !!! I freaking hate March sometimes !!!

Sad to say, I'm working on leftover chunks and uglies now. Little bit of snow in forecast...I had to pull some black locust out of next years stack.....SHHH--dont tell anyone.

rdust, we got about the same amount and looking at the forecast for today another 3-5" is forecast. But Dave has it much worse up around Atlanta. I wonder what yooperdave is getting? Maybe he is buried by now and we won't hear from him until Memorial Day.

I dipped into the good stuff last night too. Snow and cold for a few days here.

All my good stuff is gone. I had some oaks about 8" round I had down for about 2 years now, bucked but not split. Been out in the open and I just split them yesterday. Wet to the touch inside and out, from all the snow melt etc, but had em indoors for overnight last night and theyre burnin today! A little hissing going on but with the air control wide open they are staying lit and puttin off heat. Better then paying the man I suppose.

Bill, it can't be all my fault...I still have gas in the snowblower!

I just did the same exact thing. Pulled some locust out of next year's wood. Man, I'm way behind. I gotta get some more wood for next year.

It was Backwoods S.
Dennis took the plow off his new ATV, ;-P Then posted that he did. :bug: :-/
My plow is still on. ;)

Looks like we'll need our "good" wood anyhow...lows in the teens until next week....where did spring go? :(

OK, OK . . . I'll come clean . . . it's my fault . . . I still want to snowmobile and am not ready for the Winter weather to end quite yet . . . went out yesterday in fact and where I was it actually snowed several inches . . . think I may take off sometime next week to get another ride in . . . maybe.

Is siver (sugar) maple not good wood? I burn 80% oak but always have put all the wood together, this will be first yr that I have seperated my types of wood. I have about 1 full cord stacked for next season. So is it not good wood?

When a man (or woman) is cold and doesn't have any fire, it matters not what the wood is . . . but only that they have wood. All wood is good wood in my book . . . but many folks consider silver maple to not be so good . . . at least when stacked up to sugar maple which is desirable. Silver maple is a bit lower on the BTU scale compared to oak, sugar maple, etc.
