I was cutting thru some stumps in my mother in law's yard, from trees I cut last summer, when my saw quit. Went from wide open to nothing, no sputter just silence. Got fuel and spark, no start. Doesn't seem to pull any different with the compression release in or out, but it doesn't feel right.
Might be a 79cc jug and piston in its future.

does it fill like you have compression when you try and pull start it?

Did it just shut down abruptly or gradually, like it ran out of gas??

Not to be the bearer of bad news but it sounds to me like you burned a hole in the piston. maybe running too lean!!!

Pull the muffler and see what the piston and cyl. look like. You may have a good excuse to go big bore. :cheese:

It doesn't pull real easy like the spark plug is out, but it doesn't feel right. And there doesn't seem to be any noticable difference with the decompression release in. I can pull it hard enough to get the button to pop out.
And yes, it just stopped, like I hit the kill switch. Which is what I thought happened, cause that wouldn't have been the first time.
It was low on gas. Maybe that leaned it out enough to get it hot.
Hopefully I can look at it tomorrow.

So, officially squeaked a piston. I can save the cylinder, but I'm thinkin as long as I got it apart.....

yep good time to upgrade it

I'm gonna blame this on me. I'm thinking running it that hard and running out of gas is what happened. Usually when I run it out I'm bucking and it it just sputters a little and I shut it down. This time, running wide open with the saw on its side and the filter sticking up out of what little fuel was left in the tank probably did the trick.
I guess I'm a little excited. Wish I had a couple hundred extra bucks laying around. Hafta wait a couple weeks.

now that rasies a good question

my saw is always used WOT and when i run out of gas it will wind up and then die - i'll refill it and get back to work

are you not supose to do that?

yep Iam with you wot till it dies for 25 years now

Don't discount the possibility that you were just running too lean and when it blew was a coincidence.

Are you going to put in the 79 cc OEM or the 84 cc BB?

I hit the kill switch the moment I hear it leaning out before it runs completely out of gas, even if I'm in the middle of a cut.

It's a possibility. I'm done worrying about it

I'll be putting in OEM parts. I think it's funny that they don't even have a price for the 64cc kit. Probably haven't sold even one.

Hmmm . . . surprised we haven't heard from any of the rabid see-the-government-mandated-ethanol-will-ruin-your-small-engines-and-it's-a-great-government-conspiracy-to-force-us-to-buy-more-stuff folks. ;)

I wouldn't blame it on the ethanol, but if that were my saw, I would be trying to find out why it happened in the first place. You might want to have the saw pressure tested to see if you have an air leak somewhere. I would sure suck to buy all the new parts, put them in just to cook it again...

I think it died because of the government mandated ethanol laced fuel that will ruin your small engines. You know its a socialist, Nazi inspired, government conspiracy created to force us to buy more stuff and have our health care controlled by a government bureaucracy.

Sorry I was late. %-P

Hmmmm. . . well I'm sure a lot of the Dolmer people will be along directly to tell you exactly why your Dolmer isn't working.
