I have friends who recently moved into a new home that has a woodstove on the hearth. They are not interested in having it and want to pull it out. I encouraged them to make sure the fireplace was actually safe to use before they do so as stoves are often put in to deal with problem fireplaces but also to make sure that the stove is installed properly.

I think from the pictures that they sent me to post here that I can make out "Jotul" in the top corner, but I don't know what model it would be, and I wanted to ask you all. An old number 3? Is this a pre-EPA stove without a baffle?

It looks like the air control is a simple dial at the bottom. There is also a screen for open-door burning.

They'd like to sell the stove if they can get any money for it, but if it's an old one, I wasn't sure it would be worth it, but I told them I'd ask here. Thanks for any help you folks can give me.

If it's a a model three it will have a large 3 on the side. The spin dial versions were non-cat. It's value will depend on its condition, but these days it might bring $600, $800 if enameled and in good operating condition.

Thank you, gentlemen. I confirmed that there is indeed a 3 on the side, so Jotul 3 non-cat it is. It appears to be simply painted with no cracks or warping, so I told them they could try for $600, I appreciate the advice.
