It must be nice to have standing dead trees that are actually dry. Around here they tend to be very wet. Maybe if we had some Pinion Pine things would be different.

You must not deal with much hardwood then. Most hardwood trees have a lot more branch work/brush clearing to be done than the posted photo. That actually looks like it would be pretty easy.
 
CountryBoy, it really depends upon where the tree is grown. If the tree is in the open then it indeed will have lots and lots of branches. Cut a tree that is inside the woods and not so much limbing to do. I am reminded of that while cutting our now dead ash trees that are deep into the woods. Not much limbing to do on those which makes it nice for cutting up firewood.
 
That's a beaut, Tim. What's the diameter toward the bottom?

Woodporn, most pinons are much more branch-laden than that one.

All I deal with is hardwood, occasional pine/spruce for campfires, but nothing but hardwood goes into the stove.

And yes I still tink it looks branchy (word?)
