pellet basket for my tarm-402,are pellets workable for this boiler,

I have a Tarm 402 wood boiler,main use is for wood and coal,i was wondering if i could try pellets with this setup and how efficiant or workable is this,i can order a custom size pellet basket for this unit,any ideas,and what type storage contaiment would be easiest to build to store water?,thanks,mike.

I just bought the "official" (and expensive) coal baffle kit from Tarm USA in NH, and installed it in my Tarm 502 (same as 402 except with an oil burning chamber). Only 2 days of run time so far, but it looks good. I was also interested in pellets, but coal seems to be the cheaper alternative.

If you want bagged, and you can line up a forklift that can easily handle 2500 lbs, and you have a place to unload off the back of a walking bed trailer, then http://penncoal.com/ is one place you can get 22.5 ton loads. They also offer more economical 20-26 ton bulk dump trailer loads. I burn rice but they have all sizes.

Having spent my Garn money on two boilers and a ten-year supply of coal, I can only agree. It sure is nice to burn only as much perfectly dry firewood as I feel like messing with.

Thanks for the coal info. I am really enjoying the conversion from wood so far, and agree that wood burning as a hobby will be a welcome change.

I checked out your link and followed your boiler room / thermal storage project - really nice setup you've got there. Wish I could do something similar here, but just don't have the real estate for storage tanks (nor the $$).

I'll keep checking the NEPA website and local contacts to see if I can keep my anthracite costs down. I suspect that with the insanity going on in the Middle East right now, we'll see all heating costs go up.
