I am having issues with my insert and am considering a pellet furnace like the harman pf100. How effective are these? Do they give a consistent heat like a pellet insert? I think I would have it installed how much is the typical installation? Thanks

Yes very consistent heat and if you have the air ducts to distribute the heat the distribution will be even and can be adjusted with the duct registers for every room. The ash pan is huge; I only need to empty it once a year. The pellet hopper will hold 4 bags of pellets. My install is over 4 years old so my cost would not be accurate today. Maybe some of the folks with newer installs can give you an estimate. Your pellet usage may increase if the heat distribution compared to your pellet stove increases.
all depends on the labor and fabrication that needs to be done. $5500 for the unit/blower. Estimating 6-10 hrs labor at $65 per hour. Backdraft dampers and metal approx $500. venting $300 to $700.
Please remember that it is a 110,000 btu unit so full blast will need around 13 pounds of pellets per HOUR so watch your settings.

The manual says the minimum it will burn is about one pound of fuel per hour. So I guess you could say your fuel usage should be between 1 to 13 pounds of fuel per hour.
The the cabinet of the furnace radiates quite a bit of heat with out distribution fan air. Along with the vent pipe it alone heats my open unfinished 24'x40' basement.

I would get a price on a Harman pb105 boiler with a tankless heater, add a heat exchanger properly sized to the ductwork for heating plus you could get all DHW using the tankless heater.

There are a few other quality pellet furnaces out there as well. The PSG Alterna and St. Croix Revolution are a couple I am familiar with. Both offer control of the BTUs you would want to run at. I'm sure there are other models and brands out there as I have seen a few other posts on here that you might want to look into as well.
