Pellet stove not really working??

Hey guys hows it goin. I picked up a pellet stove from a friend in exchange for fixing his fridge...he said the pellets get stuck some times.

Well tonight I pulled the stove out into my driveway to test it. I plugged it in, started the fire and sat down to watch.

It sort of worked for a while, every 10 seconds or so it would spit out 1 or 2 more pellets....untill the fire was dull and then it stopped dispensing pellets. The fire died out and I had to start it all over again. At this point it started spitting out pellets again for a few minutes....then the same thing happened.

Any ideas what sort of maintenance these things require? It probably needs a cleaning???

Probably a pellet jam in the auger or auger shoot. There also could be a buildup of fines in the auger or auger shoot. You scored big time! My father has this stove and these feed problems are the only issue with it. Usually it can be fixed with a screwdriver or coat hanger to break up the jam and then blast the rest out with the compressor.

Maybe the stove was hooked up to a thermostat. Check and make sure the jumper is in place where you would hook up a thermostat. To hook up a thermostat, the jumper wire is removed and that would be where your 2 wires would hookup that comes from thermostat. If missing, place a jumper wire between both the 2 connections. At start up, it would go thru start up mode at a pre-set amount. If it had a thermostat hooked up, once start-up has completed, it will revert to calling for heat from thermostat. With jumper in place, it will stay in manual mode and run with settings on control. Just a thought.

Are you getting any E codes?
Does the stove ever get to temperature so the room blower turns on?
