You have to buy a special Bar/Chain combo. Will not work for regular chains. I'll pass. I can buy a lot of files for the $60 or you can buy a grinder for $120 or less.
 
For the weekend cutter or someone who take their chains to someone to sharpen, I think they are great. The system works amazingly well for the first half of the cutters life but have heard it doesn't work as well later on. I think what you need to do is touch up the rakers by hand as they get a little long in comparison to the cutter over time.
