what can run on this i have a friend who wants to buy it and use his heat,fridge and a few lights. what do you all think?

I think it would work fine for those things. I wouldn't rely on it to do much more though.

You have to decide what items will be run by it, then add up all the running watts that they use. That unit will take a 4K surge, but the total watts by all the appliances, lights, etc, can't exceed 3500 or so.
