Quick hearthpad question

My stove requires 6" of the hearthpad to extend in front of the stove. Does the pad have to go all the way up against the wall for a corner install, such that the exiting stove pipe (straight shot install) is protected by the pad as well?
 
regardless of the stove manufactuirer, do you have to have floor protection between the stovepipe coming out of the stove and the floor? Assuming laminate/wooden flooring.
