Hoping to get rolling repairing my chimney crown and installing a bluestone cap this weekend - Have a question for those of you with masonry caps on brick chimneys: How many courses above the crown? Looks like standard is 3 to 4, that sound about right?

Thanks guys,
Jim

I went higher, but I have a really big chimney AND originally planned for a flue-top damper that needed some room to swing... I'll add a pic.
