Question:

I have a HearthStone III stove with soapstone and a maroon ceramic (?) over the cast iron. Serial # is 1744. It is signed on the back with the name "Robert Roy Tornham III" as best I can tell- and also engraved below the signature is the number 85-3-742. Do I have some kind of rarity- or was this common on the HearthStone III's. Local dealer says they quit making this model in 1990. What might be an approximate value? It's in excellent condition.

Answer:

All hearthstones are signed by the builder- so it is nothing special. They did stop making it- but that does not make it valuable. It's probably worth around 500.
