When we were shopping around for our furnace, a few of the companies offered power outage packages, which included a safety heat dump, comtrolled by a "fuse" that melted @ 300* and opened a panel that let the heat escape from the plenum into the basement.

We are pretty prone to power outages here in the winter, so would something like this bennifet us? Where would I buy something like this?

Most wood furnaces should have their automatic damper tight enough that in event of a power outage, the damper will close and choke the fire out....
