The old hearth is made of those various sized slates. There were two that were used to level the original stove. They measure about 1/4"x4"x8". I was thinking about using these for trivets to help preserve the look of the stove top (Lopi Liberty).
Question is; can they take the heat? I'm allergic to shrapnel.
Thanks in advance-

Send one dollar to the webmaster and I'll tell you- perfect! Though I expect over time, it may or maybe not, break down (crack).

Too funny!

SOOO what did you find out?

I was going out to the barn for awhile and the wife was reading near the stove so I figured that would be a good time to test it. Unfortunately, they work great! The Lopi Liberty has a step on the top so we'll use both of them. One on the lower level for cooking, and one on the upper level for warming. She likes the looks so we'll leave them on there and they'll always be preheated. It's those little things...
