Not having one of those 3-point winch/blades, I was debating how to get a load of logs/tops down a steep section of roadway. So . . .

I drove the truck with the snow plow on up to the log ends. Then I chained them to the plow frame and backed the truck down the hill. I knew if the truck started getting pushed around while going backwards I could have a disaster on my hands. But the truck is heavier than the tractor, the plow gives the butts something to ride against, and the back edge of the plow dragged along the roadway slowed the descent and gave stability.

All in all it worked pretty good. I think I need a 8-12 ton dump trailer so I can just cut in the woods, then load the trailer and dump in the [yet to be constructed] shed.

Did you have it in 4 wheel/low?

It actually sounds good to me.(fellow redneck)

So I guess this means I’m a Redneck. No nice try though. Do it with a chevy chevette ant the top cut of then you might br a redneck

Sounds alright to me! You're not a redneck. You know you're a redneck if you would have put those logs on the roof of your Ford Escort station wagon.

GIT 'ER DUN!

Is the traveling distance too long to prohibit pulling just 1 log at a time? Even going down hill 1 good sized log isn't going to jack knife if it's secured correctly to a 3PH.

Our #2 son discovered this quick 3PH wrap that is so naturally tight...it's almost too tight. The dragged tree wont turn around a trail corner. I can dig it up for a show/tell if your interested. It guaranteed not to jack knife going down hill... icy road or not.

The 3 pt steel weight boxes they make for compact tractors make great skid plates. Drop the 3 pt arms, back up to the log, run the chain around the log then up and over the weight box to the drawbar, then raise. Good control and the log stays pretty clean especially this time of year.
